2005 Toyota Corolla (E120) Sound System Upgrade

The 2003-2007 Toyota Corolla saw a huge upgrade over the previous generation in terms of interior space, design, and materials. The factory radio slot can accommodate a double din stereo and the door speakers went up from a basic 4" setup to a 6.5" setup with 6x9's in the rear. Unfortunately, Canadian spec Corollas were still relatively basic with no tweeters and just a simple CD player with pretty lackluster sound quality.

These are very reliable cars and will easily last over half a million kilometres given the proper maintenance, so investing a bit to make the daily commute more enjoyable is not a bad idea. For this vehicle, we installed the Pioneer DEH-S5200BT which is a feature-packed single din head unit. Compared to some of the more basic options, this head unit offers variable colour illumination for the screen and buttons. It also has CD playback which is popular for some of our more old school customers, as well as bluetooth, USB, and aux inputs. One of the best things about Pioneer's bluetooth radios is the ability to connect them to the SmartSync app. This app lets you control the EQ in a much more user friendly way compared to traditional single-din radios. There's also a bunch of other connectivity features in this app which is available for both Android and iOS devices.

Toyota Corolla Pioneer Radio Alpine Speakers

For the speakers, we fitted the vehicle with a pair of coaxial Alpine S-S65 speakers. These speakers have a silk dome tweeter mounted in the center and do a much better job of covering the entire range of frequencies compared to the basic stock speakers. A speaker bracket is required to install speakers in these Corollas and some trimming of the door card may be required for certain speakers. Sound deadening is also highly recommended for these economy cars.
