2020 Mercedes C63 AMG Blackvue DR900X-2CH + Cellink Neo

A car as special as this C63S AMG Sedan deserves a dash cam setup that performs as well as the Blackvue DR900X-2CH. This latest iteration of the flagship Blackvue dash cam features many refinements that we've been asking for. These include:

  • Built-in Voltage Cutoff settings (through WiFi app), this means no more fiddling with dip switches that are hard to understand on the Power Magic Pro
  • Instant Parking Mode via 3-wire hardwire cable means no more waiting for the camera to switch in and out of parking mode. It simply switches modes with the vehicle's ignition.
  • Better ventilation, this is particularly important in parking mode as some users noted that the DR900S-2CH and previous Blackvue models would go out of focus as the camera heated up and the lens shifted slightly.

The USB port for the LTE module is not the biggest deal for most of our customers as data plans in Canada remain expensive. Not only that but the extra power consumption would mean that the dash cam takes a hit in parking mode recording time. Nonetheless, this camera features some industry leading features like H.265 compression, 5GHz WiFi, and a very good 4K front camera. We've been using the DR900S-2CH for over 2 years now and love how intuitive the Blackvue WiFi app is.

For this install we went with the Cellink Neo battery pack, this is the same battery as the Blackvue B-124X with the exception of USB port and a slightly different app is used for the bluetooth. With the bluetooth app the user can check the remaining charge and how much recording time they can expect out of the dash cam. We hardwired the battery to the trunk fuse box and placed it under the trunk floor where it would not be in our customer's way. We prefer the Cellink Neo as it's about 15% cheaper than the B-124X while offering the same great features. It's a better battery compared to our cheaper Thinkware iVolt BAB-50, although that battery will still take care of battery and drain related issues. All three models use similar input and output connectors, as well as the very safe LiFePo4 (Lithium Iron Phosphate) battery technology.

With newer Mercedes vehicles, we always recommend the battery pack as it will help to reduce "auxiliary battery malfunction" issues and auto start/stop issues. Essentially if a dash cam is hardwired to the car's battery for parking mode, the car will typically disable auto start/stop as the voltage is too low the next morning for the battery to sustain all the electronics if the engine were to be shut off at a red light.
